REMEMBERING GANGOPADHYAY

DR. P B GANGOPADHYAY'S LAST RITUALS
ON 20TH AUGUST


Dr. Phalguni Bijoy Gangopadhyay (2 Dec 1950-10 Aug 2011)

Dr. P B Gangopadhyay, retired IFS and former Chief Conservator of Forest passed away on August 10, 2011 at his residence at Delhi.
Born on 2nd December, 1950 and educated at Presidency College, Calcutta, Late Gangopadhyay joined the Indian Forest Service in 1975. A recipient of AIFC Honours diploma and Sulochana Naidu Memorial Prize in Indian Forest College, he was allotted to the Madhya Pradesh Cadre and served in various capacities under the Government of Madhya Pradesh as Production and Territorial DFO and prepared Working Plan for Bori Sanctuary. He was also served as Conservator of Forests of Durg and Bhopal Circle and Additional Secretary, Forest Department to the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Joined ICFRE on deputation in April 1994, he worked as National Project Director of UNDP/ICFRE Project and also held additional responsibility of Dy. Director General Education in ICFRE. For more than a year, Late Gangopadhyay worked as Director Silviculture Research in FRI. Later he joined as Director, Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, on 17th July, 1997.
Late P B Gangopadhyay attended several training courses including Training in Research Methodology at Oxford Forestry Institute, UK. His key areas of interest were scientific and objective management of forest resources, developing human resource and strengthening foundations of forest services.
This person associated with various Bengali and social activities. He has left his wife and a son and a daughter.
Late Gangopadhyay’s last ritual would be accomplished in Delhi on August 20, 2011 at 12.00 noon. His family has requested everybody to join in the prayers for the peace of his departed soul.

Bengali Association, TT Nagar, Bhopal in its Executive Meeting held on 14th Aug,2011 expressed its deep sorrow at the untimely death of late Shri Gangopadhyay.Shri Ashok Ganguly President of the Association said that the passing away of Shri Gangopadhyay has been a great loss to the Bengali community of Bhopal.His conribution to the society shall always be remembered. A Two minute silence was observed to pray to Almighty God so that his Soul may rest in Peace in Heaven and strength be bestowed on the bereaved family to bear this great Loss.
